The New Sound is the debut solo release of Geordie "Guzzler" Greep, shortly after the disbandment of his previous project, Black Midi. and to be honest, I think it was for the best, because this album is one of the greatest I have ever heard....!! i didn't think it could get any better than Hellfire but somehow, it did. My first interaction with this album was around the time that the first single, "Holy, Holy" was released. it was actually what introduced me to Mr. Greep's work as a whole, as i had never heard of him or black midi before this. it instantly became one of my favourite songs, and as i awaited the album's release i discovered black midi and it was, if you may, Pretty Flipping Awesome.

Eventually, on the third of october, 2024, a day before its release, the Greepster premieres his new album live on YouTube. I tuned into this live stream and was absolutely flabbergasted by such an incredible work of music, so as any reasonable person would I ended up "pre"-ordering the album the same day from a german store called HHV for some reason. Which brings us to now, a day where I can now confidently say that I was a day one Greeper, something I am sure to brag about for many years to come

"But what exactly do you think of the album???" I hear you say. Well, if you had been paying any fucking attention, you would know that I thought it was an incredible work of music, a belief that I still hold, perhaps even more so. Basically, This album is totally epic bacon and swimming in awesome sauce. IT IS SO GOOD!!!!!!! One of the best I've heard to be exact. The first three tracks are probably my favourite back to back song trio ever... Blues is probably my favourite though. It used to be Holy, Holy when it was still fresh to me but I think blues is just really special. I love how it builds throughout the entire song and Greepoid's lyrics and vocals on that one are just. Holy moly. and then after that explosion of an ending Terra fades in and all my worries seem to vanish. Which is to say, It's Really really good. the album dips a little in terms of excitement around the middle with lackluster tracks like "Through a War" and "Bongo Season" but things immediately pick back up with the adrenaline rush that is "Motorbike" (sung not by the Greep, but rather Shank Evans) and do not slow down until the extreme twelve minute long climax that is "The Magician", followed immediately after by the beautiful closer, a cover of Frank Sinatra's "If You Are But a Dream". If you haven't noticed I am kind of terrible at describing music, but that only gives you more reason to GO LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM!!!!!!! I Promise you won't regret it. if you want a preview before you fully dive in, there are two videos linked at the bottom of this webpage with some handy custom graphics to accompany them. They will give you a pretty good idea of what you're in for, which is total Raditude, by the way.

So overall, I would say this album is pretty much a modern masterpiece, one of my favourites in my collection and even of all time. SEE ALBUM ART BELOW!! (pardon the slight dent, you'll have to blame Big Mail for that one)
